The architecture competition for the first office buildings at Magdelēnas kvartāls has closed

The architecture competition announced by Vastint Latvia SIA in May of this year – for the first two office buildings at Magdelēnas kvartāls, providing 8,600 m2 of modern office space and 1,400 m2 of commercial space on their first floors – has closed. The goal of the competition was to receive the best possible metropolitan architectural designs which would also respect the laws concerning the conservation and protection of Riga’s historical centre.

Six designs were submitted and evaluated by a panel of judges that included a representative from the Latvian Association of Architects, the head of Latvia’s State Protected Cultural Monuments Agency, the vice-chair of the Riga City Architect’s Office, a member of the Estonian Association of Architects, and representatives from Vastint Latvia.

Deemed as the best and winning entry was the submission titled XXXOOO, by the architectural office OUTOFBOX – Pēteris Bajārs, Guna Priede, Jānis Aufmanis, Arta Lāce, and Luīze Elizabete Rukšāne. This design clearly stood out from the rest with its precise reflection of the Vastint Latvia objectives and its excellent suitability for Riga’s historic centre.

In total, the quarter will contain 300 residential apartments, 15,000 m2 of office space, and 3,000 m2 of commercial space and creative workshop space. Magdelēnas kvartāls will be an open and harmonious place in which to live, work, and relax. A place for a fulfilling life!
