During a ceremony on 21 July, a time capsule with a message for future generations was embedded in the foundation of the first round of Magdelēna’s Quarter.
The ceremony was attended by the Managing Director of the project developer, Vastint Latvia SIA, Romāns Astahovs, with members of his team, creator of the buildings in the first round – leading architect Gatis Didrihsons from the SIA Didrihsons Architects architectural firm, with his team, and board chairman of the general contractor, SIA Merks, Oskars Ozoliņš, with his team. The attendees congratulated the beginning of the Magdelēna’s Quarter project and shared memories about the origins of the idea. Together with the message for the future, the capsule contains an issue of the Diena newspaper and a one-euro coin as evidence of the present day.
Magdelēna’s Quarter will be a high-quality and dynamic space for life, work and leisure, located in the quite centre of Riga between Antonijas, Emiļa Melngaiļa and Strēlnieku streets. The first round will involve two six-floor apartment buildings with 109 flats, three commercial venues and seven live-work flats with a private zone on the second floor and a work zone on the first. A green internal courtyard will ensure a fine environment for residents of the building, and it will be installed between the buildings and above the car park. The first floors of the buildings will also have private auxiliary rooms for the owners of the various flats.
The construction involves modern and proven building materials creating a high-quality and comfortable living space, and allowing future owners to maintain their properties more effectively.
The plan is to complete the first round of construction during the summer of 2017.
