First parts of public realm open at Vastint UK’s Aire Park

Vastint UK has unveiled the initial sections of Aire Park’s public realm in Leeds, marking a significant milestone for the project in this pivotal year. This includes the first new green space, named the Tetley Green, located opposite the brewery’s former headquarters. The new greenery which was seeded in 2023 is now providing a shot of colour to the area and is the first hint of the 8-acre public park, which will feature 700 trees and be the largest new city-centre green park in the country.

Adjoining the Tetley Green and connecting Aire Park to the new inspiring public artwork, Hibiscus Rising by Yinka Shonibare CBE RA, are the Theatre Gardens. The paved walkway enables easy access to Meadow Lane and a new garden surrounding the 10-metre tall tribute to the life of British Nigerian Leeds resident, David Oluwale, which was unveiled as part of the Leeds 2023 celebrations.

Included within the Theatre Gardens are seating areas, two small stages, and a selection of raised beds which will bloom over the coming months with an array of herbaceous planting. The plants chosen include Solidago ‘Goldenmosa’, Kniphofia ‘Papaya Popsicle’ and Crocosmia lucifer and have been selected to create a colourful and textured backdrop which evokes both drama and vibrancy as the blossom.

As the first parts of the public park space are introduced at Aire Park, anticipation builds for the imminent completion of the first two buildings, 1 & 3 South Brook Street. The buildings, which offer office space and ground floor retail, are due to complete in Spring 2024.
