On January 15, 2018, the Albert hotel, owned by Vastint Latvia, has been closed for renovation with the intention to reopen as the new AC Hotel Riga by Marriott in 2019. The new AC by Marriott hotel in Latvia will be operated by international hotel operator Legendhotels.
After the renovation, which is to be carried out by Vastint Latvia, the AC Hotel Riga will have 239 rooms. Its facilities will include a conference center, a lounge, a restaurant and a fitness center. Operator Legendhotels Latvija has signed a 20-year franchise agreement with Marriott International and will start operating the new hotel from 2019.
“Albert Hotel was the first project by Vastint in Latvia. It quickly became very popular among tourists and locals alike, amid its excellent location, attractive concept and panoramic view of Riga historical centre from the 11th floor”, comments Romans Astahovs, Managing Director of Vastint Latvia. “We are excited to welcome Marriott in our building. It will re-open and start its new life with Marriott’s established brand and proven methods to attain the highest levels of guest comfort. Finally, we are looking forward to the arrival of Marriott to Riga, and in particular this area of Klusais centrs. It will increase the values of the neighborhood properties and businesses, thus also motivating new investments and development.”
“AC Hotels by Marriott is designed for those creative, well-traveled, entrepreneurial spirits who are constantly on the go and who appreciate the oasis of a well-designed hotel that allows them to welcome moments of tranquility, be present and connect with others,” said Legendhotels Board Member Tauri Sumberg. “The arrival of the world’s largest hotel company Marriott International to the Latvian market is an important milestone. Latvia will now become more visible to more than 85 million regular customers of Marriott, which we believe will significantly contribute to the Latvian tourism numbers and reputation,“ added Sumberg.
“AC Hotels by Marriott is a new breed of lifestyle hotels created to inspire the next-generation traveler through innovative design,” explains Tina Edmundson, Global Officer, Luxury and Lifestyle Brands, Marriott International. “Our rapidly growing portfolio of design-led hotels illustrates Marriott International’s commitment to making distinctive architecture and design affordable and accessible for creatives and entrepreneurs around the world – appealing to a large and growing demographic, with a robust development pipeline to match,” Edmundson added.
AC Hotels celebrates the beauty of classic modern designs with its European soul and Spanish roots, born from the signature vision of renowned hotelier Antonio Catalan, who founded the brand in 1998 and grew it into one of the most well-respected hotel brands in Spain. Following its success in Europe, a joint venture was formed with Marriott International in 2011, which launched AC Hotels by Marriott globally into France, Italy, Portugal, Denmark and the U.S. Based on a belief that purposeful design improves lives, AC Hotels carves away what is unnecessary, in order to provide guests with thoughtfully designed moments of beauty; moments that elevate their stay and help them focus on what is important to them.
