Aire Park as an immersive experience this year at Light Night Leeds

Flooding Hunslet Stray with a colourful and immersive light installation, ‘Pleasance’ by Novak is a 35-metre long street projection that will be a highlight of this year’s Light Night Leeds. Hosted by headline sponsors Vastint UK, the multi-sensory, animated light sequence is inspired by its forthcoming development: Aire Park.

Projected onto the street directly in front of the iconic Tetley Brewery building, the family-friendly installation has a bold and colourful design with visuals and sounds inspired by the hundreds of new trees, acres of green space, new homes, offices, restaurants and cafes that will bring the South Bank to life.

Andrew Cobden, Managing Director of Vastint UK, said: “After years of planning, we’re excited to finally offer the people of Leeds the opportunity to quite literally step into the Aire Park experience at Light Night Leeds. Pleasance will pay homage to South Bank’s tailoring and industrial heritage, the significance of River Aire, and celebrate the bustling district that Aire Park will bring to the centre of Leeds. Inspired by nature and the 8.6 acres of park at the heart of Aire Park, Pleasance will give a feel for the vibrant and energetic environment that is set to encompass the former Tetley Brewery site.”

An all-purpose district with a central city park at its heart, Aire Park will be a place for everyone, where people gather for events, meet for evening meals or grab an early morning coffee. Aire Park will be a phased development, with the first stage of construction due to commence mid-2020.

Good things come in trees
Walking, talking Dream Trees will take root through the streets of Leeds as Vastint UK celebrates the introduction of 500 new trees in Aire Park.

Look out for the Aire Park trees in the Light Night opening parade and throughout both nights of the event.

Councillor Judith Blake, leader of Leeds City Council, said: “There is huge anticipation for the development of Aire Park, a district that will open up the city and reconnect the North and South of Leeds. We’re pleased that Light Night will set the stage for Vastint UK to share a first glimpse of the transformation of the South Bank with a multi-sensory experience that everyone can enjoy.”

‘Pleasance’ features designs by textile designer, Hazel Dunn, and a multi-channel soundscape by artist and composer, Ed Carter.

The 15th annual Light Night Leeds will take place on Thursday 10 and Friday 11 October, with a stunning programme of more than 60 impressive installations and performances by artists from across the world.
